Bruce Lorne Campbell est né le 22 juin 1958 à Royal Oak dans le Michigan aux USA. Il est le plus jeune d’une fratrie de trois et son cousin est l’acteur Billy Campbell.

À l’âge de 8 ans, il est inspiré par son père et se lance dans le théâtre. Son père Charli faisait partie d’une troupe d’amateurs. Bruce a interprété son premier rôle au théâtre à l’âge de 14 ans dans Le Roi et Moi.

À l’adolescence, il réalise plusieurs courts-métrages avec ses amis. En 1975, il devient le baby-sitter de Ted Raimi et devient ami avec les frères aînés, Sam et Ivan Raimi. En 1978, il étudie pendant quelques mois à l’université du Michigan avec Sam où ils font la connaissance d’un certain Robert Tapert

En 1979, ils réalisent un court-métrage nommé Within the Woods  qui deviendra au début des années 80 Evil Dead. Ce film lancera leur carrière. Le 10 août 1979, ils fondent la société Renaissance Pictures. À la même époque, Bruce se marie avec Christine Deveau avec qui il aura deux enfants, Rebecca et Andy, avant de divorcer en 1989.

Aujourd’hui, il est marié avec Ida Gearon depuis 1991. Il est acteur, producteur, réalisateur, scénariste et il prête sa voix à plusieurs dessins animés.
